Blog Post #1

I came across an article speaking of air pollution and the harmful affects it has on humans. The article's title is, "Air Pollution is killing twice as many people as previously thought." The author, Lloyd Alter, provides examples and evidence of his titled claim and shares statistics relating bad air quality to respiratory-related fatalities. As I agree with his overall objective to clean up our air quality and environment, I disagree with one of his last claims where he says it is time "to clean up... and... to say goodbye to wood-fired pizza and bagels." Once again, I don't disagree with him that achieving good air quality is important, but I do not think we need to go to the extent of not being able to use our wood-burning ovens! I believe there are many other alternatives to turn to before we get down to the nitty gritty "problems" like a wood-burning fire.

  1. Air pollution is indeed a serious problem in the current environmental pollution problem. Air pollution directly affects the human body, such as the lungs and respiratory tract. Although I agree with you, just the wood-fired oven will not cause such serious air pollution. Many of the reasons are factory emissions and vehicle emissions. However, I believe that the protection of the air environment should start from everyone. Although we can't change the emissions of factories or cars, I think that reducing the use of wood-fired ovens is also making changes to the air environment, even if it is only a little bit.

  2. I think that you are right in the fact that we should be tackling issues bigger than wood-fired pizzas and such, but I feel that by talking about it now and reducing air pollution in any ways everyone can will surely help the environment.

  3. Although the wood burning oven is polluted, I think this is only a small part of the current environmental pollution. For example, the exhaust of Chinese automobile exhaust and thermal power stations is the main force of pollution.

  4. I do agree that wood-fired pizza ovens and bagels are not our environments largest issue when concerning air pollution, but I do think an accumulation of many small issues can lead to large change in many circumstances. I am not sure of the context of the article if the comment about the elimination of wood-fired pizzas and bagels was meant to be sarcastic or totally serious.
